The value and impact of an mlb manager is not quantifiable. It involves millions of daily moment to moment personal interactions between the manager and everyone else both inside and outside the organization. This value can’t be quantified and the more we try, the more it escapes us. That is the beauty of this game we love so much🙂👍⚾️

I'll argue that makes it near valueless. What you want is a "zero" - neither positive nor negative and that can do as little as possible save manage personalities and the coaches. Coaches can clearly be positive, but it can't be predicted or valued. They can clearly be negative, which should lead to quick replacement.

I see your point Will, it clearly can’t be predicted. However I do believe an exceptional manager does have value. Thanks for the discourse, it’s a great subject🙂👍⚾️

I don't disagree, but we've seen managers have good years and bad years. Maddon was great with the Cubs, until he wasn't. Baker has been up and down, often with very similarly constructed teams. There's no consistent value, not no value at all.

You’re right Will, Bochy experienced down years with both the Giants and the Padres, so we do have a quandary on our hands. It reminds me of the topic: is team chemistry a thing? Does good team chemistry lead to winning, or does winning lead to good team chemistry? 🤷

Id think more the latter.
