Thanks for the prompt and definitive reply. Yes, sorry about Jones, it was his injury that had me thinking about this unfortunately. I know you had an excellent article once after Kobe had ruptured his and the new repair techniques, pre-Kobe/post-Kobe. Fingers crossed for a quick/healthy Jones return in 2026. Thanks again. LOVE UTK!
Thanks - there's been a generational change again from that technique to the tightrope that was used on Rodgers and many others. I still haven't been able to find out which kind Halliburton got (I think standard/non-braced.)
Interesting, I wasn't aware of that new technique used on AR. Mine was circa 1997, so caveman style but i've been able to continue playing amateur baseball, although i never felt like i regained my first step burst but that most likely is due to me being an amateur athlete ham and egger. When you refer to "standar/non-braced" is that a similar technique being used in the TJ surgeries now for some players where the potential to return quicker than standard recovery is greater?
Similar. Tightrope and suture tape are different but have the same purpose when used in repairs - make the structure stronger. Here's a link that explains in detail: https://www.arthrex.com/foot-ankle/achilles-rupture
Fascinating. I get quesy watching the videos of the procedure but it's absolutely fascinating what can be done to get athletes back on the field and near/at their riginal peaks. This is great stuff here, thanks! Whoa. Thoughts and prayers with D-Jones for a healthy and speedy recovery. Thanks again as always.
I didn't know where to ask Will this and it has nothing to do with this most excellent recent post, but I was curious to know. Are there much more players suffering achilles tendon ruptures across all sports in the past few years or is it my imagination? It seems as if weekly, players are dropping from this injury and if their is some sort of new types of training that is causing the achilles tendon to be stressing and causing these ruptures.
Hey BC -- the answer is no, but we've had more high profile ones. I mean, if you live in Indy like I do, you feel it's epidemic! This is something I've looked into and the answer is no, not in real numbers and no, there's no known causation.
