With the weekend behind us, let’s get right to the injuries:
CARLOS RODON, SP NYY (strained hamstring)
The Yankees need good innings, from anyone available. Nestor Cortes coming back is a big help, but losing Carlos Rodon the very next day to a hamstring strain mutes the effect. The team hasn’t been healthy all year, leaving the team a patchwork and never quite getting to the expected roster they had back in spring training.
Rodon’s hamstring is still being checked and the team probably won’t know if they’ll do an MRI until Monday morning. It will depend on whether the tightness stays and if there’s any sort of deficit. Both the location and severity are unknown right now, so most estimates we’ll see until then are purely speculative.
If Rodon is out (again) for any period of time, the Yankees rotation finds itself very shorthanded. Luis Severino has already been forced back despite his performance, so Randy Vazquez is the likeliest candidate. He was solid in three previous starts in June, but has been mediocre at Triple-A. He’s on the 40-man, but he’s also already in sight of his innings high of 130 which came last year. Beggars can’t be choosers and the Yankees simply don’t have many options with the trade deadline past.
